Spring 2023

Wow what a few months it was!

Where to start, hmm. I guess our first road trip of the Spring is the best place. My husband turned 59 this year. To celebrate we met up with his father and sister at Casino New Brunswick. We had a great time. Great food, great company and oh yeah snow. Of course it had to snow. We didn’t win much but didn’t lose big either. I’ll take that as a win!

April saw the awakening of life. From plants to critters to neighbours, life abounded everywhere!

May. Oh May. It was hot and it was dry. Very Dry. On May 28 I worked in the morning. As I left I texted my co-worker for her birthday. Two hours later she was texting me telling me she thought her house was burning down. There were so many sirens I knew something big was happening. Not in a million years did I expect it to be as big as it was. At that point the subdivision she lived in had multiple houses on fire, yes hers was. They fled the flames. The fire spread so fast and so wildly it was just crazy. I went back to work so those who were impacted could leave. It was an experience I will never forget. People had nothing. Literally nothing but the clothes on their backs. Many had been at the beach on what had been a beautiful sunny day. They had nothing. People who were evacuated had zero time to grab anything but pets. Some folks never got in to get anything. But people were amazing that night, the next day and in all the following days. Yes, people lost all of their material possessions, but no one died. That was truly incredible.

The next two weeks were a time I will always remember. Communities, businesses and volunteer organizations coming together to help those who needed it.

As the days passed and we heard more and more stories it hit home how truly lucky people had been. Seeing people in the checkout line hear someone talk about their loss and another person wanting to pay for their order is a feeling I can’t even describe. There are a lot of good people in my area.

We had so many people staying in our parking lot. All anyone wanted to do was help these folks however we could.

To all the first responders, volunteers and everyone else who came together when the community needed it most, Thank You.

The fire made me decide to get rid of my backyard firepit. I just couldn’t see me ever wanting to light it again. I will get a propane one should I get the itch again. To fill the space I bought a pool. That’ll teach the husband to agree to things while he’s having a few adult beverages!

We’ll work on prettying up the space next year. So far I love it, I just wish it would stop raining so I could use it more.

We’ve also had a lot of fun at work this Spring, From Easter Egg Hunts to rock painting to eating together it’s been a great celebration of who we are!

Our proudest moment of the Spring goes to our daughter who achieved one of her goals by completing her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Cultural and Religious Studies.

And with that I will end this post. Stay tuned for the floods of Summer 2023.
